Firmino – Sturridge – Coutinho (4-3-3)

Two tricky Brazilians either side of a lethal poacher; lips are licked at the thought. Philippe Coutinho has finally upped his game this season and has quite possibly been Liverpool’s standout performer, especially when you take their relatively uninspiring start to the campaign into account.

His 25-yard opening-day screamer got the ball rolling in a vindictive narrow victory at the Britannia Stadium and the 23-year-old has since been the focal point of much of the club’s good work going forward.

Coutinho is Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League this year.

Firmino, meanwhile, has certainly blown hot and cold since his summer switch to Anfield, but deserves a second thought purely due to his performance at the Etihad last month. His interchanging with Coutinho made it nigh-on impossible for Man City’s rearguard to pick them up; throw Sturridge into the mix and things get even more the trickier.

His no-prisoners touch in front of goal is often lauded, but what he doesn’t get enough credit for is his clever movement off the ball; Sturridge knows exactly when to drop off and when to spin behind and is also no slouch when it comes to holding the ball up.

A front three of Firmino, Coutinho and Sturridge would without doubt have Liverpool fans purring after often seeing their side play lump route-one football to the head of Christian Benteke this term.
